Play-Venture is our Preschool ministry that serves ages two – pre-K. This is a fun and active stage in children’s lives. We want church to be a place where they have fun and want to be. We use a variety of hands-on activities encouraging them to learn through their play. We are excited to have them and look forward to teaching them that God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever.
In our toddler and 2’s classrooms we begin to introduce a formal curriculum. All activities are age-appropriate with plenty of flexibility for the normal needs of toddlers and two-year-olds. Children are welcomed by loving team members who are there to help them transition into the classroom by finding a toy or activity that they enjoy. Children will then be taken one or two at a time through a hands-on activity designed to set the stage for the day’s Bible story. Next is snack and story time. While gathered around the table for snack, our little friends are told an age-appropriate and engaging Bible story. We end with a closing activity that helps clarify the point of the story.
In our 3 – 5 year old classrooms we continue to focus on the three basic truths that God made me, God loves me, and Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Every month we focus on one of these truths and a monthly Bible verse, with each week featuring a different Bible story.
As children arrive they will be directed to join into one of several age-appropriate hands- on activities designed to set the stage for the Bible story. Children will rotate through these activities as time allows until it is time for the Large Group presentation. At this point all 3-5 year olds will gather together for a creative presentation of the day’s Bible story. A combination of live storytelling and DVD’s are used for this purpose.
The story is followed by fun and dynamic Worship time. Children are then broken down into Small Groups of 8-10 kids based on age and gender. We strive to be sure that the same group of children meet with the same Small Group leader each week. This time has two key purposes. One is to reinforce the application point of the Bible story or the “Bottom Line”. Just as important is taking the time to encourage each child to share a bit of themselves and to demonstrate to them that we at Christ Church care about them! Snack will also be served during this time.
